This medication is used to treat eye infections. Tobramycin belongs to a class of drugs called aminoglycoside antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.This medication treats only bacterial eye infections. It will not work for other types of eye infections. Unnecessary use or overuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.
To apply eye drops, wash your hands first. To avoid contamination, do not touch the dropper tip or let it touch your eye or any other surface.Do not wear contact lenses while you are using this medicine. TOBREX Eye Drops have been formulated as a sterile, preserved solution for topical application to the eye. TOBREX Eye Drops contain 3 mg/mL tobramycin, together with boric acid, sodium sulfate, sodium chloride, tyloxapol, sodium hydroxide and/or sulfuric acid (to adjust pH) and purified water. The solution is preserved with benzalkonium chloride (0.1 mg/mL). TOBREX Eye Ointment has been formulated as a sterile, preserved ointment for topical application to the eye. TOBREX Eye Ointment contains 3 mg/g tobramycin, together with mineral oil and petroleum base. The ointment is preserved with chlorobutanol (5 mg/g).
Treatment of external infections of the eye and its adnexa caused by susceptible bacteria. Appropriate monitoring of bacterial response to topical antibiotic therapy should accompany the use of TOBREX.
